Copper + Brass Care

Copper + brass are undoubtedly the most charming metals + we love that you can add them into your home incrementally. Start small with items for your office or entryway, then work your way up to something bigger, like solid copper cookware. With regular polishing, a touch of copper or brass will go the distance.

WHY DOES MY PRODUCT HAVE A GREEN PATINA?

Patina + oxidation are 100% normal + expected, but applying baby or mineral oil once cleaned helps delay oxidation. If you want to polish your metal item (which is different from cleaning), we recommend using Bar Keepers Friend to make a paste, then rinse to return to its original shiny state. Vinegar or ketchup also work in a pinch, as do lemon juice + dissolved salt. Whatever you do, do not scrub!

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY COPPER COOKWARE SPECIFICALLY?

To clean things up, soak in warm water + dish soap. Don’t put in the dishwasher or use an abrasive scourer, which will wear through to the tin lining.

HOW DO I REMOVE TARNISHING FROM COPPER?

There are a few ways to do this (you can sigh a breath of relief), but before you commit, always test a small, inconspicuous area of your copper item, then apply these cleaning solutions to the entire surface. To remove tarnishing on copper, use any of the following: vinegar + salt mixed in equal parts, sprinkled salt rubbed off with half a lemon, a baking soda paste, or ketchup (yes, ketchup).
